Slitter Operator

Department: Slitting

Job Summary: The slitter operator must set up and operate the slitting machine to produce finished rolls of films (printed/laminated, printed only, unprinted laminated, plain unsupported) meeting customer specifications. Operator is responsible for weighing, wrapping and stacking the finished rolls on pallets, as well as, cleaning the slitter and peripheral equipment.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent

Experience: Entry level position: Job training provided

One year preferred in flexible packaging

  • Must obey all company policies and procedures
  • Must ensure all printing department employees are performing the required documentation and verifications of the food safety and quality processes.
  • Must be a team player
  • Able to read a tape measure
  • Able to lift between 50 to 75 lbs minimum
  • Must be able to walk, squat, crouch, turn, twist, stretch, climb steps, grab, pull, push and bend throughout an 8 to 12 hour shift
  • Knowledge of slitting machine and tools
  • Knowledge of production processes, quality control, raw materials and other techniques for maximizing the effective slitting of finished product

  • Pushes buttons, turns handles, moves controls or levers to start slitting machine or manually controls equipment operation
  • Turns, pushes or moves controls to set and adjust speed, position and pressure tolerances of slitter
  • Loads, positions and adjusts films on unwind shafts
  • Review work order to determine final unwind, finished roll width and diameter and any special notes for the specific job
  • Dismantles and reassembles units or parts to clean, repair, maintain or adjust the machine
  • Cleans and lubricates slitting machine and components, using approved oils, brushes, rags and hoses
  • Inspects and examines slit rolls for flush surfaces
  • Maintain neat and orderly workplace
  • Perform special assignments as requested
  • Performs cleaning tasks as outlined in the cleaning logs (daily, weekly, monthly, etc)
  • Trained in the handling of hazardous materials
  • Trained in spill control and clean up
  • This job position is a safety sensitive position
